What a Photo Code does

A supported TimeMarkerGps image can display a 14-digit Photo Code. The website reads that visible code with optical character recognition and sends the exact value to the public record-lookup endpoint. When a matching record exists, the result can display the stored image and available fields.

What the returned record can include

The API stores a code for each file record and associates records with projects, teams, and contributors. A returned record can include a creation date and optional data such as location, coordinates, weather, and other supplied fields. A missing field means the value is not available in that response.

Where GPS values come from

Location and coordinates are supplied through the capture or upload workflow. GPS availability and accuracy depend on the device, permissions, satellite visibility, surrounding structures, environment, and implementation. The reviewed API stores these values but does not independently calculate, attest, or certify them.

Which time is being shown

A visible device timestamp, image metadata time, upload time, and server record creation time can be different. The reviewed backend records when its file row is created. It does not provide a trusted-time attestation proving the exact instant of image capture.

What lookup does not prove

The lookup does not compare cryptographic hashes, verify a digital signature, analyze image edits, preserve an immutable chain of custody, or establish legal admissibility. A matching code retrieves a stored record for comparison; it does not prove that every image copy is unedited.

How to use the result responsibly

  1. Confirm that the full code was read correctly.
  2. Review all returned fields, not only the map or timestamp.
  3. Compare the result with the project checklist and other records.
  4. Confirm the evidence standard with the receiving organization.
  5. Use specialist forensic, legal, survey, or compliance review when the decision requires it.
